High Speed Rail for Alberta...
It's About Time.

Alberta High-Speed Rail Inc. (AHSR) was formed in the late 1990s to be the operator of this passenger rail service. Our sole purpose is to bring high-speed passenger rail service to the Edmonton, Red Deer, Calgary corridor in Alberta, Canada.

AHSR will use existing proven technology to operate electric passenger trains at 300 kilometers per hour, reducing the travel time between downtown Calgary and downtown Edmonton, a 300 kilometer trip, to just 84 minutes. Currently this trip takes close to three hours by air or by using the existing four lane highway. There has been no passenger rail service in this corridor since 1985.

Trains will be equipped with comfortable seats, a sophisticated heating and air-conditioning system, cellular phone and internet connections, washrooms, and the all-important food and beverage services. A manufacturer for the trains is under review.

As a private, for-profit company, AHSR has investigated all aspects and costs of the infrastructure and equipment, supporting facilities required to operate and maintain the service and to market the sale of tickets to the general public. We continue to explore financing opportunities for this important project.

Safety is the number one criteria for the operation of the service. The technology has proven itself over the last 40 years as demonstrated by the Japanese high-speed rail network, which has carried over 6 billion passengers while incurring ZERO passenger fatalities in its history.
